The Smyrna School District has a rich tradition of being family oriented and academically sound.  The first graduating class in 1885 had seven students.  In 2015, 360 students graduated from Smyrna High School.  With eight fully operational modern schools in the district: four elementary schools, three intermediary schools, and Smyrna High School, Smyrna School District serves over 5,200 students.  Six of the schools, Smyrna Elementary, North Elementary, Sunnyside Elementary, JBM Intermediate School, Smyrna Junior High School and Smyrna High School are all located within the town’s boundaries, making the schools an integral part of the town’s quality of life.   Each school uses the Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System formulas, as well as the No Child Left Behind rating systems.  Smyrna School District continues to make progress on state testing with strong gains in secondary math and reading.  To further the quality of education for students, Smyrna School District formed a partnership with Learning Focused Solutions, which assists schools with prioritizing curriculum, implementing best practices, and developing standards-based units of study.

The mission of Smyrna School District is to ensure that students are prepared to become responsible, productive citizens possessing the knowledge, problem-solving skills and the positive attitudes necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world.
